“35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him, saying, Master, we want you to grant us a request. 36 And he said to them, What do you want me to do for you? 37 They replied, Grant that one of us may sit at your right hand, and the other at your left, in your glory. 38 But Jesus said to them, You do not know what you are asking: can you drink of the cup that I drink of? or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39 And they answered, We can. And Jesus said to them, You will indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: 40 But to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to give; but it will be given to those for whom it is prepared. 41 And when the ten heard it, they became indignant with James and John. 42 But Jesus called them over, and said to them, You know that those who are regarded as rulers over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones wield authority over them. 43 But among you that will not so: instead whoever wants to be great among you, will be your servant: 44 And whoever wants to be first among you, will be the servant of all. 45 For even the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:35-45 KJV_2011)
“3 Not as dictators over those in your care, but as examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of glory that will never fade away. 5 Likewise, you who are younger, submit to the elders. Yea, all of you cooperate with each another, being clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:3-5 KJV_2011)
“Whoever claims to abide in him needs to walk, in the same way that he walked.” (1 John 2:6 KJV_2011)

The Last Supper: Jesus talks about how he’s going to be betrayed and beaten and killed. Nope. Just tell them you’re going to be betrayed. More accurate. Also, you forgot to wash your disciples’ feet. Jesus must increase – His authority and influence in our lives, our thoughts, our words, and our actions must grow.We must decrease – The purpose of our lives is to point the world towards Him. We are not to form religious affiliations to glorify ourselves, or to set up a religion of our own. As the light from the evening moon fades away and is lost in the rays of the rising sun, who we are in the flesh is to fade away in the glory of His light. It should be an honor for any one of us, to accept in humility, and with a willingness to be esteemed as nothing–if we can honor Christ. - Jesus Christ, Bondservant (altruistico.wordpress.com)
The disciples gathered around a table to celebrate Passover with Jesus. Had one of them been more thoughtful of the others—or if one possessed a spirit of servanthood—he would have done the very thing that Christ did. He would have taken water and a cloth, knelt before the other 12 men, one at a time, and washed their feet. Jesus came into the world as a servant (Matt. 20:28). He was willing to do whatever was necessary to move men’s hearts and bring them to a saving knowledge of God.As the lowest of household servants, the bondslave had the distasteful job of washing the feet of anyone who entered the home. And this is the very task that Christ voluntarily performed that evening, right before His trial and sufferings would begin. His act was a foreshadowing of the service He was about to render to His Father—as well as to the whole world—by dying on the cross for humanity’s sin. - How to be happy? (bryanvillarosa.wordpress.com)
People who think highly of themselves are never happy. In short, proud people never have real happiness and joy. That joy is fake. That smile is just a mask. Before Christ washed his disciples’ feet, he set aside his garments. In the ancient times, garments define social status. It defines rank, position and profession. Jesus laid them aside. As a follower of Christ, you count your achievements as “dung.” You count everything as loss for Christ. You don’t glory in them. You don’t cling to your titles and take security in them. There is no other name that is exalted in your life, there is no other source of happiness in your heart than the name of your Savior. - Jesus, Son of God. (abundanceis.wordpress.com)
Almighty and everliving God, in Your tender love for the human race You send Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon Him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of His great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of His suffering, and also share in His resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen – Scot McKnight - Maundy Thursday: Mar. 28 (prayerscapes.wordpress.com)
Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

Each human being is endowed with dignity and is worthy of respect, regardless of social station or any other humanly-determined ranking system. Jesus demonstrated on his knees, for all who would follow him, that our love is shown in serving each other, humbly and generously. “A new commandment I give to you that you love one another.”
